GECO LIME scratch

NATURAL HYDRAULIC LIME-BASED BONDING MORTAR

GECO LIME scratch is the bonding mortar (scratch coat) of the GECO line, based on NHL 5 natural hydraulic lime and classified as a renovation mortar (EN 998-1 R). It creates a rough, breathable base layer that anchors the dehumidifying plaster to damp and historic walls.

It is applied with a trowel, without smoothing, at 0.039 to 0.197 in (1-5 mm), leaving a textured surface that improves the adhesion of the following layers. Waterproof and breathable, it is the first line of defense against rising damp and helps slow down salt efflorescence.

Compressive strength: CS II; dry density: 99.9 ± 3.1 lb/ft³ (1600 ± 50 kg/m³).
Adhesion on terracotta: 73 psi (0.50 MPa), failure pattern B (substrate).
Capillary water absorption: > 0.061 lb/ft² (> 0.3 kg/m²) after 24 h; capillary rise: < 0.197 in (< 5 mm).
Water vapor diffusion resistance factor μ: 11; thermal conductivity: < 1.73 BTU·in/(h·ft²·°F) (< 0.25 W/(m·K)).
Reaction to fire: A1 (non-combustible).
Thickness per coat: 0.039 to 0.197 in (1-5 mm); consumption: 7.8 lb/ft² per inch of thickness (1.5 kg/m² per mm); fresh density: 103 ± 3.1 lb/ft³ (1650 ± 50 kg/m³).
Mixing water: 1.3-1.5 gal (5.0-5.5 L) per bag; open time: 20 minutes; application between 41 °F (+5 °C) and 95 °F (+35 °C).
55 lb (25 kg) bags; pallet of 60 bags; shelf life 12 months in a dry place.
